Since 2007, February 22 has been mandated as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Canada. Human Trafficking happens every day across Saskatchewan. Despite its prevalence, the general population is often misinformed about what human trafficking is.
Hope Restored Canada’s - one of SASS’s member agencies - primary mandate is addressing the diverse recovery needs of sexually exploited and trafficked women, trans women, as well as Two-Spirit individuals as they exit their lives of abuse. They define Human Trafficking as involving:
“... recruiting, moving, or holding victims to exploit them for profit, usually for sexual reasons or forced labour. Traffickers can control and pressure victims by force or through threats, including mental and emotional abuse and manipulation.”
